Arizona football updated its online roster, and here are some changes

Nothing too surprising

On Thursday morning, the Arizona Wildcats updated their online roster and there have been a few changes.

There are some players with new positions, others that are no longer on the roster, and some that are still on the roster despite the fact we didn’t see much of them in spring.

We will start with the position changes. It is now fully official, as if it wasn’t already, that Anthony Mariscal has made the move from safety to running back.

Mariscal played running back in high school, and he was pretty darn good at it. During his time that he played for the Liberty Patriots in Bakersfield, California, he racked up 2,809 yards on 383 carries (an average of 7.3 yards per carry) and had 38 scores in three seasons in the backfield.

Mariscal had a great showing in both the open scrimmage and Spring Game, and legitimately has a chance to be the No. 2 back behind J.J. Taylor. And with the defensive backfield getting crowded, moving Mariscal made a ton of sense.

Another position change is former offensive lineman Abraham Maiava moving to defensive line. He’s 6-foot-2, 295 pounds, and adds more depth and size to the unit. During the Spring Game, he showed he can eat up blocks and get decent push along the line.

Sophomore safety Scottie Young Jr. was suspended for the spring, but he is still listed on the roster.

A lot of speculation has been made as to what his future with the program is, but for now it seems like he will re-join the team for fall camp.

Two other players that kind of disappeared during spring were Malik Hausman and Kurtis Brown. Both were dinged up, though Brown actually dressed out for the Spring Game, but did not participate. They are both listed on the roster.

Redshirt freshman running back Noah Pittinger is no longer listed on the roster. I personally liked his film — he was very explosive and elusive.

Another walk-on not listed is redshirt junior receiver Christian Poe. Poe came in shortly after fall camp last season but didn’t see any game action.

Blueshirt slot receiver D.J. Hinton is also gone from the roster. Hinton was making some noise during his redshirt season and figured to see some action this year.

One of the big names no longer on the roster is Jamardre Harris-Cobb. The former four-star recruit has had an interesting career at Arizona, but it seems to have come to an end. He has played fullback the past two seasons but was transitioning to defensive line under the new coaching staff.

Lastly, Brandon Dawkins has now been removed from the roster with his move to Indiana.

Midyear enrollees still have not been added to the roster, and that includes Keyshawn Johnson Jr., who Sumlin was unable to comment about after the Spring Game.

Players’ weights were not updated.
