Brandon Williams scores school-record 52 points in win vs. Alemany

The Arizona signee has been tearing it up lately

Brandon Williams has been on a scoring tear lately, and Wednesday he turned in his best performance to date.

The Arizona Wildcats signee poured in a school-record 52 points, leading Crespi to an 89-85 overtime win over Alemany.

Here is what Eric Sondheimer of the L.A. Times wrote about the 6-foot-3 point guard, who carried his team down the stretch:

He scored 12 of his team’s 14 points in overtime after a 75-75 deadlock in regulation. His basket in the final seconds of regulation sent the game into overtime. Crespi rallied from a 10-point deficit in the final two minutes.

Crespi improved to 20-2 and stayed unbeaten in the Mission League.

Williams, who missed his junior season because of knee surgery, was on a minute-restriction at the beginning of the season, but it appears he is full-go now.

These were Williams’ point totals in the eight games prior to Wednesday’s outburst: 37, 36, 23, 30, 37, 31, 32, 32.

The Encino, Calif. native was shooting 49 percent from the field entering Wednesday’s game, averaging 1.5 points per shot, per MaxPreps.

Williams scored 37 points against Alemany a few weeks back, and here are the highlights from that game:

A four-star prospect, Williams is the No. 31 player in the 2018 class, per 247Sports which also pegs him as the No. 7 point guard in the country.

Williams is one of two players Arizona has signed, the other being 6-foot-9 forward Shareef O’Neal who is ranked 33rd.

However, both signed non-binding financial aid paperwork back in November so they can still opt out of their commitments to Arizona and sign elsewhere before the spring signing deadline in May.

If Williams does stick with Arizona, he will have a great chance of being its starting point guard in 2018-19.

Current starter Parker Jackson-Cartwright is set to graduate after the 2017-18 season, and freshman Alex Barcello has not done enough to prove he is capable of taking over that role — at least not yet.
