3-star DB Christian Young commits to Arizona

Another recruit from Texas

Three-star defensive back Christian Young has committed to the Arizona Wildcats, he announced Wednesday on Twitter.

The Richmond, Texas product is the No. 800 player in the 2018 class and the No. 59 safety, according to 247Sports.

Young, who decommitted from Iowa State in October, held offers from ASU, Cal, Houston, Washington State, Missouri, Oregon State, and Purdue among others.

He officially visited Arizona this past weekend for the Oregon State game. Young is listed at 6-foot-1, 201 pounds, but mostly plays cornerback, despite being listed as a safety.

“It will be interesting to see what he develops into in college, because while he is a bigger-framed guy his strongest attributes are his coverage abilities,” wrote Greg Powers of Scout.com. “If he moves to safety he will have to show that he can play downhill and be physical against the run, something that he does not have to do as much of playing corner in high school.

“He has good ball tracking skills and closes quickly, so you often see him getting his hands on the football when offenses try and test him.”

In 2016, Young was a second-team all-district selection.

He becomes Arizona’s 17th commit of the 2018 class. UA’s recruiting efforts have picked up some momentum lately due to its improved performance on the field (thank you, Khalil Tate), and the Wildcats now have the No. 57 recruiting class in the country.

Young is Arizona’s fourth commit from Texas, an area Arizona has started to emphasize recruiting from again.

He becomes Arizona’s third-highest ranked recruit, per 247Sports’ metrics.

Here are Young’s junior year highlights:
