Wildcat Wrap: Re-live the amazing weekend that was for Arizona Athletics

What a weekend it was in Tucson

It was a good weekend to be an Arizona Wildcat.

Several notable feats, from rugby titles to NCAA Tournament wins, took place all through the athletic department. Here are the highlights from each sport:

Men’s basketball

Women’s basketball

  • Arizona women’s basketball opened its season with a 71-58 win over Iona.
  • Freshman forward Sam Thomas became the first UA freshman since 1986 to make two 3s and block three shots. Freshman guard Marlee Kyles had 17 points (6-13 FG) and six rebounds.
  • Speaking of freshmen, next year’s class will be pretty dang good as Arizona signed the No. 4 2018 recruiting class in the country, which you can learn about here.

Football

Soccer

  • Arizona scored two goals in the final 17 minutes to take down TCU 2-1 on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Our recap of that match can be found here.
  • UA will face Florida State in the second round on Friday in Palo Alto, Calif. The Wildcats are 6-0-2 in their eight games.

Volleyball

  • It’s been a tough year for the rebuilding ‘Cats as they sit at 10-15 overall, but they came back to pick up a huge win against No. 16 Oregon on Sunday in a five-set thriller.

Rugby

  • Arizona rugby made history by winning its first ever PAC 7s championship. The Wildcats beat Cal, who were the reigning conference and national champions. Here’s a good recap of that game.
  • The Wildcats won on a last-second try by Dante Weeks who is apparently just as fast as Khalil Tate:
