USA Softball: Danielle O’Toole tosses one-hit shutout against Japan in World Cup

The former Wildcat stymied the No. 1 team in the world

Danielle O’Toole’s career with the Arizona Wildcats may be over, but her dominance in the circle is not.

The former Wildcat tossed a one-hit shutout for Team USA on Friday, as it beat Japan 5-0 in the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City.

The left-hander tallied three strikeouts and three walks against a Japanese squad ranked No. 1 in the world. Japan’s lone hit was a single in the fifth inning.

It was the second start for O’Toole for Team USA, which is 5-0 in the tournament. She pitched four scoreless innings in Team USA’s 8-0 win over Mexico on Wednesday.

Team USA takes on Puerto Rico on Saturday at 11 a.m. PST and Australia at 5 p.m. PST.

The title game, which the American team will surely be in barring an upset, is Sunday at 10 a.m. PST. All the games are televised on ESPN2 and the full schedule can be found here.

The USA Junior Team, which features UA first baseman Jessie Harper and catcher Dejah Mulipola, is 3-3 in the tournament and takes on Japan on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. PST.

Harper is hitting .286/.333/.500 in 16 plate appearances with one homer, two RBI, and a walk.

Mulipola is hitting .333/.333/.667 in nine plate appearances with one homer and four RBI, which came on a grand slam against Mexico on Thursday.

The USA Junior Team lost to the full-blown USA National Team 8-1 on Friday.
