Arizona football: Trey Griffey waived by Indianapolis Colts

The former UA receiver signed with the Colts after going undrafted

Former Arizona Wildcats receiver Trey Griffey was waived from injured reserve by the Indianapolis Colts on Friday.

Griffey, the son of Hall of Fame baseball player Ken Griffey Jr., was signed by the club as an undrafted free agent on May 4 on a three-year, $1.66 million contract, but was waived with an injured designation in June, allowing him to stay with the club until his injury healed.

According to OverTheCap.com, Griffey’s contract was entirely non-guaranteed, but he agreed to an injury settlement with the Colts, per NBC Sports.

Griffey will now look for a new NFL team to catch on with in time for training camp, which starts in mid- to late-July depending on the team.

The 6-foot-2 receiver played in 44 games in four years at Arizona, tallying 79 receptions for 1,241 yards and six touchdowns.

Griffey’s best season was his sophomore year when he caught 31 passes for 405 yards. As a senior, Griffey caught 23 passes for 382 yards as the Wildcats suffered from quarterback instability.
