Arizona Wildcats in Las Vegas Summer League: July 7 recap & July 8 preview
Friday was uneventful, but Saturday should be the opposite
The first day of Las Vegas Summer League took place Friday, and while six games were played, only one former Arizona Wildcat saw the floor.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had seven points and six rebounds in 27 minutes as the Brooklyn Nets took down the Atlanta Hawks, 75-72.
The third-year player shot 3 of 9 from the field and 0-1 from 3.
Meanwhile, Gabe York did not play for the Los Angeles Lakers in their 96-93 overtime loss to the LA Clippers. But you can only blame a former UA alum for that as Jud Buechler is the head coach of the team.
In all seriousness, York was always unlikely to play since he just finished up his stint with the Charlotte Hornets in Orlando Summer League, thus he did not have a chance to practice with the Lakers’ Summer League team.
Expect him to play as Las Vegas Summer League progresses.
Saturday should be more eventful
Eight games are on the slate for Saturday’s action in Vegas, five of which will feature at least one former Wildcat.
Kobi Simmons and the Memphis Grizzlies take on the Washington Wizards at 1 p.m. PST (ESPNU).
Lauri Markkanen and the Chicago Bulls face the Dallas Mavericks at 1:30 p.m. PST (ESPN3).
Nick Johnson and the Portland Trail Blazers play the Utah Jazz at 3 p.m. PST (ESPNU).
Kadeem Allen and the Boston Celtics face Gabe York and the Los Angeles Lakers at 5:30 p.m. PST (ESPN)
Kaleb Tarczewski and the Philadelphia 76ers close out the day with a matchup against the Golden State Warriors at 7:30 p.m. PST (ESPN).
