Arizona football recruiting SitRep: First Polynesian Showcase a success

Arizona’s staff is continuing to bust out new recruiting techniques

This week has been a busy one for the Arizona Wildcats. The staff hosted two camps and numerous visitors over the weekend after being out on the road earlier in the week for a satellite camp.

So there’s a lot to get to with all of this action, but get caught up with this week’s SitRep.

Christian Young

With Arizona’s staff looking to dip back into Texas this recruiting cycle, Young would be a prime recruit to snag in order to get the ball rolling. He is up to 23 offers and is looking at dropping a top list on June 16th. He stated that Arizona will be on that list, and is looking to visit Tucson later in June. That should go a long way in landing his commitment.

Young likes the idea of playing in the Pac-12 and playing for Arizona’s staff. He is looking at making a decision in the very near future, naming July 18th as the date that he wants to announce his decision. This is a recruitment that Arizona fans should keep a close eye on and could end in the Cats’ favor if the visit goes well.

Recruiting Notes

  • This kind of slipped through the cracks but at the end of May Arizona picked up another walk-on in punter Cameron Braaten. The 6-foot-1, 196 pounder from ThunderRidge High School (Highlands Ranch, CO) was previously committed to Indiana before flipping to the ‘Cats. His addition should add more competition with the special teams unit.
  • Blake Veargis (3-star ATH from Miami Norland High School in Miami, FL) released his Top 10 this week. The schools that made the list are Arizona, California, Nebraska, UAB, Kent State, Wake Forest, Bowling Green, Arizona State, Virginia, and Kansas. Nebraska has gotten a lot of buzz in this recruitment but Arizona sits in a good spot for the time being.
  • Another prospect who released a top schools list is Bryan Addison (4-star ATH from Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, CA). He released an updated Top 7 list on Monday that includes Arizona, Arizona State, USC, UCLA, Nebraska, Oregon, and Washington. Arizona replaced Louisville after they offered near the end of May. The ‘Cats will have their work cut out for them but they are still in this battle. However, things could get even more interesting. On Sunday, Ohio State and Michigan offered Addison after his performance at the USC Rising Stars Camp. These offers could shake things up a bit. Either way, Addison’s recruitment is far from over.

Visits/Camps

Over the weekend, the Wildcat staff hosted the First Annual Polynesian Showcase camp in conjunction with the AIGA Foundation (which is run by former Wildcat George Malauulu). The Wildcats hosted prospects from Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah, Hawaii, Colorado, Washington, Nevada, Texas, and New Jersey. Arizona also had other visitors on campus earlier in the week.
