New University of Arizona president will not let Sean Miller go to Ohio State

“Over my dead body”

When the Ohio State Buckeyes suddenly had a head coaching vacancy with the surprising departure of Thad Matta this week, several national people brought up Sean Miller’s name as a potential replacement.

Miller coached under Matta, and maybe the Arizona Wildcats’ head coach would look to take that over.

This seems like a stretch at best, and now new University of Arizona President Robert C. Robbins has been asked about it, and he gave the Arizona Republic some good stuff:

“The Ohio State University is a great university, but they are not going to get Coach Miller. They will have to come over me to get him, as the saying goes, over my dead body."

Over his dead body.

Also in that piece, Robbins says that “there was a run” at head baseball coach Jay Johnson. This must have been the speculative rumors that Alabama would be interested in Johnson. These rumors also had no real facts to back them up. And the Tide already had a new guy in place before Arizona’s short postseason stint even began.

Robbins’ first Arizona sporting event was the Friday night victory against Cal by the baseball team two weeks ago.

Anyways, this is all rumors and speculation, but it is nice to see the university president take such a strong stance in his first days on the job. It’s also kind of strange that he treats every piece of speculation as fact.
