Arizona football recruiting: 3-star cornerback Christian Young looking at July decision

The Wildcats are sitting well with the Texas-based DB

The Arizona Wildcats have put more focus on Texas this recruiting class, and it shows with the Lone Star State trailing only California for offerees.

One of those offered earlier by the Wildcats was Christian Young.

The 6-foot-1, 190 pound 3-star defensive back from Foster High School (Richmond, TX) picked up his fourth offer from the Wildcats in March. He is now well into double digits.

“I recently just got my 23rd offer,” Young said on how many offers he is up to. Arizona, Kansas, Oregon State, Houston, Arizona State, and SMU are just some of the schools that have offered him.

Right now, Young knows of some schools that are standing out to him, however, he did not say too much about it and rightfully so.

“I can’t say all that yet,” he laughed. “My top (schools) will be dropping on June 16th, which Arizona is in.”

From what I can find, Young has been on an unofficial visit to Florida in late March but is looking to take more. This includes a trip to Tucson.

“Yes sir, I plan to go (to Arizona) sometime in June.”

So far, Young talks to a few members of the Wildcat staff and stays in contact with them. This continued communication will be an important part of his recruitment if the Wildcats want to pull Young from Texas to Tucson.

“Coach (Jahmile) Addae, Coach (Theron) Aych, and Coach (Chris) Singletary have mainly been the ones I’ve been in contact with,” Young explained about who on the staff he talks to. “I talk to them probably once every two weeks.”

“They’re recruiting me as a cornerback,” Young continued. “They like my size, speed, ability to play left to right, and that I’m a ball hawk.”

As alluded to above, Arizona has done well so far for the talented Foster standout. His interest in the Wildcats stems from the opportunity to play in the Pac-12 at a big school, his admiration of the coaching staff, and the facilities at the school.

When it comes to making a decision, Young has a date in mind and Wildcat fans will not have to wait long to see if Young is Tucson bound.

“I think I will make my commitment on July 18th,” Young simply stated.

Young is a rangy, physical corner. He can cover large amounts of space in a short time and is not afraid of contact. His long arms help him knock passes away and pop the ball out of the receiver’s hands. He also has pretty good footwork and turns his hips easily to change direction. He has a knack for reading the quarterback’s eyes, which allows him to make plays on the football.

According to his Hudl, Young finished his junior season with 54 tackles, 4 INT, 12 PBU, and a forced fumble.
