Trevon Duval commits to Duke over Arizona, others

The Wildcats miss out on a game-changing point guard.

Coach K has nabbed another one.

Trevon Duval, the top remaining guard in the 2017 class has committed to the Duke Blue Devils, giving Coach Mike Krzyzewski the point guard he’s been longing for and with it, the second-best class in the country, just behind Kentucky.

Duval, listed at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, may be the most dynamic guard in the country with quickness, strength, and an ability to put the ball in the basket while also being content as a distributor. While Duke is always a contender, he immediately elevates the Blue Devils’ chances come next season.

The fifth overall player joins five other commits in the 2017 class.

The IMG Academy star had a final five of Arizona, Duke, Kansas, Seton Hall, and Baylor, though the final two always seemed to be on the outside looking in. After Kansas landed transfer guard and former California Golden Bear Charlie Moore, it appeared, on paper at least, that it was Arizona versus Duke. In reality, though, it was most likely only Duke.

With senior Parker Jackson-Cartwright and freshman Alex Barcello currently slotted into the point guard depth chart, it'll be interesting to see if Sean Miller believes that is enough to contend for a national championship or if he hits the transfer wire for a bigger and more formidable player.
