Arizona basketball: Rawle Alkins to work out with Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday

Some hometown storyline stuff here

After impressing many at this week’s NBA Draft Combine, Rawle Alkins will head home for an individual workout.

According to Adam Zagoria, Alkins is set to work out for the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday.

Joining Alkins at this workout will be Arizona Wildcats teammate Kobi Simmons, along with Melo Trimble, Davon Reed, Amida Brimah, and Omer Yurtseven.

Zagoria also says that the Nets had not reached out to Alkins until after the combine.

If there’s one cool storyline to top them all for Alkins it would be getting drafted by the Nets. The 6-foot-4 wing is from Brooklyn, so it would be a nice little homecoming for him. The Nets have two first round picks in this year’s draft.

Prior to the combine, Alkins worked out with the Oklahoma City Thunder. At that time, NBA executives also said that they think he should return to Arizona. After a strong first day of the event, the Arizona freshman said that he was “50-50” on coming back to school.

Some other teams have also shown interest in the currently agent-less Alkins. One of those is the Cleveland Cavaliers, who could invite him in for a workout despite not owning a draft pick this year.

Alkins still has a little over a week to make his final decision on whether or not to return to school. May 24th is the day that players that have not signed with an agent return to school. This decision also impacts what Pittsburgh Panthers grad transfer Cameron Johnson will do. All indications seem to show that Johnson will choose between Arizona, Kentucky, UCLA, and Oregon after visiting all four of those schools.
