Arizona basketball: Wildcats set date for UNLV game

An early December meeting in Sin City

The Arizona Wildcats and UNLV Runnin’ Rebels had already agreed to a four game series, but UA’s return trip to Las Vegas after the 2015 meeting in Tucson had been pushed back a year due to UNLV scheduling conflicts.

Now there’s a date for this year’s Arizona/UNLV game in Vegas according to Jon Rothstein.

This is one of at least two Mountain West schools that Arizona will travel to this year. A trip to Albuquerque to take on the New Mexico Lobos is also planned for December 16th, 2017.

When UNLV hosted the Duke Blue Devils last season, they played the game in T-Mobile Arena, so maybe there’s a chance that this game with Arizona will get moved there rather than playing it in Thomas and Mack. Although, UNLV did lose to Duke 94-45 that day. It was also the only game the Rebels played at T-Mobile last year. There is not an event currently scheduled to be held in T-Mobile Arena on December 2nd.

In addition to this game, we already know several of the Wildcats’ other non-conference games. For example, it was recently announced that UA would host North Dakota State this year. U of A will also host the Connecticut Huskies as part of a home-and-home that begins this year. A home-and-home with the Gonzaga Bulldogs also starts anew this season.

Arizona also plays Texas A&M in Phoenix as part of a neutral site double header on December 5th, which is a Tuesday. The second part of that day will be Grand Canyon vs. St. John’s. The Wildcats’ early season tournament this year is the Battle 4 Atlantis. That entire field is loaded, featuring Villanova, Purdue, NC State, Tennessee, SMU, Western Kentucky, and Northern Iowa.

As more non-conference games get set, we will have more on them. But right now, the schedule is setting up decently.
