Arizona basketball recruiting: Brian Bowen commitment quickly approaching

Bowen will decide after one final visit to Michigan State

The Brian Bowen saga, which has dragged out about a month longer than many anticipated, is nearing a conclusion.

Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing just under 200 pounds, Bowen, a five-star recruit from Michigan, is a prized commodity on the high school basketball scene. He’s ranked 16th overall on 247 Sports’ composite rankings, and was recently named a McDonald’s All-American.

He recently told Land of 10 that he’s nearing his decision.

“I think I’m gonna go the end of this month, after the Michigan State visit on the 29th.”

The wing is down to Arizona, Michigan State, Texas, North Carolina State, and Creighton. However, many presume the battle is only between UA and MSU.

Bowen talked about how Sean Miller’s staff has ramped up the pressure after Lonnie Walker’s decision to head to Miami.

“They were calling a lot before, but now they’ve picked it up really heavily,” Bowen told Land of 10 about Arizona. “It’s an interesting situation because you really don’t know who’s gonna stay and who’s gonna go. They do have a lot of guys at my position, but if those guys go, it’s a big open spot for me.”

While outsiders think it’s a two-horse race, Bowen is still struggling to just narrow down his schools.

“I think I’m narrowing my schools, kind of, in a sense, getting a better sense of all the schools that I’m down to,” Bowen continued. “It’ll be interesting. We’ll see. It’s gonna be hard.”

Bowen’s trip to East Lansing is set for Sunday, January 29, making it likely his commitment will come at some point the week after.

Stay tuned.
