Arizona football recruiting: Wildcats in pursuit of No. 1 ranked punter Ryan Stonehouse
Arizona’s effort to improve its special teams continues
The Arizona Wildcats are undergoing a special teams makeover this offseason. The staff offered two kickers in the past month, securing five-star kicker Lucas Havrisik out of Norco, California.
Now the staff is looking to invest in a punter, Ryan Stonehouse, the No. 1 ranked punter in the 2017 class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. Ranked No. 690 overall in the nation, Stonehouse would stack up as Arizona’s sixth highest ranked prospect in the class.
Stonehouse hails from Southern California powerhouse Mater Dei, the same school as safety commit Xavier Bell.
“I have talked to Coach (Miguel) Reveles for about a month and Coach (Charlie) Ragle for about a week now,” Stonehouse said about his communication with the staff. “It got started because he saw my results at a couple camps and decided to offer me.”
He currently holds offers to California, Colorado State, Toledo, and Utah State.

“I was stoked because it is a great chance to play close to home and get a good education,” Stonehouse said about his Arizona offer. “I've been talking to Iowa and Illinois and Cal the most right now.”
There’s one week until National Signing Day and Stonehouse is going to take a wait-and-see approach for his decision. Basing it off education, football, and social atmosphere, Stonehouse says if he gets more offers, he will commit on NSD. If not, he will wait it out and choose his future school at a later time. Student-athletes do not have to sign on National Signing Day, it just marks the beginning of the signing period, which will end on April 1, 2017.
In his final weekend before National Signing Day, Stonehouse plans to visit Eastern Washington and Wyoming.
It’s really unclear as to where Stonehouse is leaning. He says he still needs to do his research on the schools that have contacted him. Arizona and California seem to be in the mix, but the upcoming visit schedule makes it pretty unclear where Arizona stands with Stonehouse.
