Arizona Cardinals officially signing Scooby Wright to active roster

He’s officially coming back to the Grand Canyon State

After reports surfaced Monday night that the Arizona Cardinals would be signing Scooby Wright III off the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad, the news became official on Tuesday morning.

Yes, Wright has to be added to the active roster after being signed off of another team’s practice squad.

Scooby’s dad Phil spoke with Anthony Gimino of Tucson News Now, and called the signing “Like an early Christmas present”.

After the NFL Draft, Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said he was trying to convince Wright to sign as an undrafted free agent in Arizona before the Browns drafted him.

“I actually had Scooby on the phone, begging him to come with us as a free agent because I think he has something special about him, and the Browns drafted him."

Now Arians will get his chance to coach up Wright.

As a sophomore in 2014, Scooby won just about every award imaginable, but was unable to follow that up with a successful junior year due to a multitude of leg injuries. The injury problem along with a poor showing at the NFL Combine dropped him to a seventh-round draft pick.

Wright did make the Browns after posting eight tackles in the preseason, but was inactive the first two weeks, then moved to the practice squad since. Now he’ll have a chance to be on the active roster when the Cardinals host the New Orleans Saints this weekend.
