Darrian McNeal flips commitment from Arizona to Oregon

Another blow to Arizona’s 2017 recruiting class

The Arizona Wildcats have lost another member of the 2017 recruiting class, after 3-star athlete Darrian McNeal of Armwood High (Seffner, FL) announced his decommitment from Arizona, flipping to the Oregon Ducks.

This comes as an extremely surprising turn of events. Willie Taggart, former UCF coach and now the head coach at Oregon had sent out an offer to McNeal just days after taking over in Eugene. McNeal informed me that he was still firm on his commitment to Arizona and had no plans of visiting Oregon.

McNeal is a three-star athlete who had fallen in love with the scheme fit under Rich Rodriguez. He only planned to take one official visit throughout his recruitment, which was to Arizona. During his official visit to Tucson earlier in December, McNeal had told me that Rodriguez wants him to be his next Noel Devine and was prepared to play as a true freshman.

McNeal was scheduled to enroll early and room with four-star quarterback Braxton Burmeister.

Arizona now has three decommitments for the 2017 class. The staff parted ways with two-star defensive tackle Elijah Watson, lost out on four-star athlete Greg Johnson after the departure of Donté Williams, and now the flip of Darrian McNeal.

The class now has 24 commitments and sits just inside the top 25 nationally.
