Arizona football: Ex-Wildcats RB/WR Jonathan Haden commits to UAB

After not being used much, Haden’s finally moving on from Tucson

In January of 2016, Arizona Wildcats running back/wide receiver Jonathan Haden announced that he would be transferring out of the program.

Well, 11 months later, he finally has another NCAA landing spot:

Haden is one of seven commits that the UAB Blazers earned over the weekend. He had been attending Prince George Community College this past year, then committed to UAB while on his official visit.

In very limited playing time at Arizona, Haden put up 44 rushing yards, 21 receiving yards, one kick return for 19 yards, and ten tackles on special teams, including a forced fumble in 2015.

Arizona could have used him in 2016. You would think that Haden would have been getting plenty of opportunities in the backfield after all the attrition the Wildcats saw at the running back position this year.

UAB football is in the process of returning to the FBS level. The team was cut in 2015, but then six months later, was brought back. Haden will be joining the Blazers for their first year back at the FBS level when he takes the field in 2017. They’ll be facing a lot of challenges within their own state as Troy and South Alabama continue to up their games.

It’ll be interesting to see what that team looks like when it returns to the field, and what Haden’s role will end up being.
