Arizona basketball: Allonzo Trier not playing Tuesday vs. UC Irvine

Arizona is still limited to seven scholarship players

The wait continues.

Allonzo Trier will not be suiting up for the Arizona Wildcats’ game versus UC Irvine on Tuesday.

Counting Tuesday’s game, Trier has missed Arizona’s first nine games of the season for unspecified reasons.

There is still no timetable for his return, and the UA has made no comment on what is keeping Trier off the court.

The NCAA did clear Trier to travel with the Wildcats when they headed to L.A. this past weekend to face Gonzaga, but Sean Miller said Monday that it is not necessarily a good sign for his playing status.

The sophomore is Arizona’s leading returning scorer as he averaged 14.8 points per game as a freshman last season.

Along with Trier, Arizona is without starting point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright for the next eight weeks after he suffered a high-ankle sprain against Texas Southern on Nov. 30.

Jackson-Cartwright is leading the team in assists per game (5.3).

Arizona will be limited to seven scholarship players until Trier and/or Jackson-Cartwright return.

The short-handed Wildcats are set to tip-off against UC Irvine on Tuesday at 8 p.m. MST. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
