Arizona basketball: Allonzo Trier cleared to travel with Wildcats, but not closer to playing

The NCAA allowed Trier to travel with Arizona, but that does not mean he is closer to returning

Allonzo Trier was permitted to travel with the Arizona Wildcats for the first time this season when the team made the trek to Los Angeles to face Gonzaga on Dec. 3, head coach Sean Miller said Monday.

Previously, Miller said, the NCAA did not allow Trier to travel with the Wildcats when they made trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas.

While that may seem like a good sign for Trier’s potential return, Miller was adamant that it is not.

“The only good sign is when he walks out there and plays,” Miller said.

Trier has missed the first eight games for unspecified reasons.

The UA had no comment on Trier’s playing status, and there continues to be no timetable for his return.

The sophomore is the Wildcats’ leading returning scorer, as he averaged 14.8 points per game as a freshman last season.

Miller also announced that starting point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright will be out for eight weeks with the high-ankle sprain he suffered last Wednesday against Texas Southern.

With Trier and Jackson-Cartwright sidelined, the Wildcats will continue to be limited to just seven scholarship players for the foreseeable future.

Arizona returns to the court Tuesday when it hosts UC Irvine. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. MST and the game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
