Territorial Cup 2016: Five ASU players who look to make an impact against Arizona

Some quarterback and company look to lead ASU to bowl eligibility

It’s that time of year. The Territorial Cup. The Arizona Wildcats look to spoil ASU’s chances at a bowl game and send the seniors off on a good note.

However, the Arizona State Sun Devils have a few players looking to make sure that doesn’t happen. Let’s take a quick look at the most likely to have a big impact on Friday night’s game.

Manny Wilkins, QB (#5)

2016 Stats: 154-for-253, 1957 yds, 9 TD, 8 INT; 105 car, 167 yds, 5 TD

Wilkins is a dual-threat quarterback who happens to throw the ball a lot. He does have some options at receiver which helps, but he also has accuracy issues. Wilkins really makes his impact with his legs. He can scramble for yards or to extend plays. Arizona will need to put pressure on Wilkins and contain him at the same time.

N’Keal Harry, WR (#1)

2016 Stats: 49 rec, 608 yds, 4 TD

Harry is a standout true freshman who has been a surprise for ASU this year. He was not expected to have this type of season at this point, but football happens. He is a tall receiver and is rather quick. He is one of Wilkins’ favorite targets and is leading the team in touchdown receptions. He is someone Arizona’s secondary will focus on.

Tim White, WR (#12)

2016 Stats: 52 rec, 644 yds, 1 TD

White is ASU’s most experienced receiver. He leads the team in receptions and reception yards and is Wilkins’ other favorite target. He also is a punt and kickoff specialist for Sparky. If he gets blocks, he can make a team pay. The Wildcat special teams coverage has to be on their game come Friday.

DJ Calhoun, LB (#3)

2016 Stats: 69 tackles, 10.5 TFL, 4.5 sacks, 1 PBU

Calhoun is ASU’s leading tackler and is tied for first in TFL. He has a pretty good motor and is troublesome whether he is playing the run or during the pass rush. He can play from sideline to sideline and has the speed to cover that much field. Look for him to try to constantly be in the Arizona quarterback’s face.

JoJo Wicker, DE (#1)

2016 Stats: 36 tackles, 10.0 TFL, 2.5 sacks, 3 PBU, 1 fumble rec

Wicker can be a problem along the line of scrimmage. He is a strong rusher off of the edge of the line and gets into the backfield consistently. He is third on the team in TFL, behind Calhoun and Koron Crump. Wicker is most effective against the run game.
