Sonoran Hot Reads: Terry Francona wins AL Manager of the Year

Another Wildcat is the best coach in their sport

Over the last five or so months, two high-profile Arizona alums have coached their professional teams to the final series of their sport, but eventually lost by blowing 3-1 leads. After the Indians did this against the Cubs in The World Series, Terry Francona was named the AL Manager of the Year on Tuesday. This is the second time he’s won the award in the last four years, making him the eighth multi-time winner. "I'm so fortunate," Francona said, "and I get to take a bow because of so many other people's hard work."

- The best thing that happened on Tuesday was that ASU lost a scrimmage to Central Arizona 11-7 in Phoenix Muni. Scott Hairston, Josh Spence, and Rich Harden must be jumping for joy. Ian Kinsler is conflicted

Basketball

- The Wildcats took down Cal State Bakersfield 78-66 on Tuesday night. Watch all of the highlights here

- Kadeem Allen did not play due to a sprained left knee. Allonzo Trier also didn’t dress

- Our former manager Kevin Zimmerman is impressed with the team’s ability to win the free throw battle in these first two games

- Arizona signee DeAndre Ayton made the preseason watch list for the Naismith Trophy High School Player of the Year. Sean Miller will announce his early period signing class on Thursday

- Oregon lost to Baylor by a pretty sizable margin. Keep in mind the Ducks didn’t have Dillon Brooks, the game was in Waco, and it’s November

Football

- Somehow the USS Arizona tribute uniforms didn’t make this list of the top-15 alternate jerseys

- Here are a few recruiting updates for you. Gabe also talked to J.J. Taylor’s former high school teammate about if Arizona will bring him in as well

- Who are the players that have the best names in the Pac-12? Well, Layth Friekh made the all-name list. A couple Wildcats also made the all-injury team for the conference

- Ole Miss QB Shea Patterson was once committed to Arizona. The Rebs burned his redshirt last week, but he certainly seemed to make that decision worth it vs. Texas A&M

- It seems Greg Byrne told boosters that Rich Rodriguez will be back next year. The same announcement happened at ASU with regards to Todd Graham as well

- It’s been a bad year, but we gave our thoughts on what has been the absolute worst part of the year

Tucson news

- Now that it’s basketball season, some nearby businesses are about to start making more money

- A stolen kitten from a Petsmart adoption event has been returned

- PACC is waiving adoption fees through Sunday in celebration of resuming adoptions

- The pro-Prop 205 people have conceded that marijuana was defeated this election cycle, but they will not “close the book”
