Arizona basketball: Highlights from the Wildcats’ 78-66 victory over Cal State Bakersfield

Here are the best plays from the home opener

The Arizona Wildcats got off to a slow start on Tuesday against Cal State Bakersfield, and had another poor stretch in the middle of the second half, but pulled away late en route to a 78-66 win.

Lauri Markkanen got the Arizona scoring started, and it was an emphatic dunk after dribbling down the court uncontested.

After Rawle Alkins made three threes in a row, he decided to start dishing the ball.

He found Chance Comanche in the low post, and Comanche decided to throw it down on a guy.

In case you were wondering if Markkanen can play defense too, here he is with the nice block off the glass.

Arizona led 44-26 at half.

In the midst of some foul trouble, Bakersfield went on a 17-0 run to get within four with about nine minutes left. A flagrant foul under the bucket got Arizona’s heads back in the game, with Comanche hitting a free throw to end the scoring drought, and Markkanen following that with a three to push the lead back out to eight.

This scoop and-1 by Markkanen was probably the final nail, as it put Arizona up eight with just under six minutes remaining. CSUB never got any closer than seven after the free throw.

And if you want all of it in one big bundle, here’s the full highlight video:
