Arizona football recruiting: Austin Faoliu picks up Wazzu offer, Odua Isibor predictions, and 2018 visitor

A couple pertinent recruiting updates

It’s been a while since there has been a roundup, so here’s the latest recruiting news for the Arizona Wildcats. There have been a few events in Arizona recruiting that have occurred that I feel should go out, as these events could have an impact on UA sometime in the future.

Austin Faoliu picks up Washington offer

Arizona’s most recent commitment, Austin Faoliu, picked up a Washington State offer not too long ago, which normally wouldn’t be noteworthy. But for now, this could be something to watch.

The 6-foot-3, 285 pound defensive tackle acted fast, committing just a few days after receiving his Arizona offer. He joined his Mater Dei teammate Xavier Bell, who committed earlier in July.

The new Washington State offer brings intrigue because the Cougars currently have a commitment from Mater Dei linebacker Fa’avae Fa’avae, who Bell and Faoliu both wanted to bring to Arizona.

I’ve been chatting with some Washington State insiders and they say that their need for defensive linemen seems right on par with Arizona.

The Wildcats won’t be losing any commitments due to the team’s performance this season, and I’m not insinuating that Faoliu is about to jump ship, but this is something to be aware of depending on how heavily Washington State recruits him, and how badly he wants to play with Fa’avae.

Odua isibor Crystal Ball trending towards Arizona State

Odua Isibor has been a guy who I have projected Arizona to land for a good amount of time now. I went out to the Higley vs. St. Mary’s game earlier this season and was able to speak to Isibor.

It had been the second time he had told me that Yale was recruiting him the hardest. He has told me that academics will play a strong role in his decision and he likes what Arizona’s medicine program has to offer.

I had also been hearing that Isibor was favoring the idea of staying in-state. Now it seems as if there might be some news on the Arizona State front, as both Demetric Warren and Ryan Bartow have both picked the Sun Devils to land Isibor.

Normally I don’t look into the Crystal Ball too much, but when two of the top West Coast analysts come up with the same pick in the same day, something could have definitely surfaced.

I’m still going to leave my pick for Arizona simply because I’ll rely on what I’ve heard up until this point.

ASU hasn’t been doing so well with defensive ends, after missing out on Jacob Callier, with them likely missing on My-King Johnson as well, who seems to be going Oregon.

Kenny Churchwell on his second unofficial visit this season

The Arizona coaching staff sent out an offer to Mountain Pointe’s (Phoenix, AZ) 2018 safety Kenny Churchwell not too long ago. Since then, he has now made his way down to Tucson twice.

He checks in at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, and is a key contributor to the No. 1 ranked team in the state. Mountain Pointe is one win away from the state championship game. Through 11 games, he has registered 46 tackles, eight pass deflections, and four interceptions, forcing two fumbles as well.

While it’s still extremely early for 2018 recruits to be committing unless it’s a quarterback, which Arizona already has in Jamarye Joiner, I could see a guy like Churchwell coming to Arizona.
