Arizona football: Brandon Dawkins cleared to return from concussion

The quarterback will likely be back in the starting lineup after the bye week

It looks like the Arizona Wildcats’ anemic offense will be getting a boost following their bye week, as quarterback Brandon Dawkins has been cleared to return from a concussion, he announced on Twitter.

Dawkins suffered a concussion against Utah on Oct 8. following a “ding to head”, and missed Arizona’s game versus USC this past Saturday, allowing true freshman Khalil Tate to make his first collegiate start in the 48-14 loss.

Arizona’s offense has had a tough go of it this season, placing in the bottom half in nearly every offensive category in the Pac-12, but it’s been at its best with Dawkins in the lineup.

For the season, Dawkins is completing 58.5 percent of his passes, compiling 7.98 yards per attempt. He’s thrown for 941 yards and five touchdowns, while being intercepted three times.

The redshirt sophomore has also run for 484 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 7.7 yards per carry.

Before suffering a concussion, Dawkins was hindered by a rib injury and it’s unclear if that remains an issue or not.

Regardless, it looks like he will be ready to play when Arizona hosts the Stanford Cardinal on Oct. 26. Kickoff at Arizona Stadium is set for 8 p.m.

The Wildcats sit at 2-5 on the season and 0-4 in Pac-12 play.

Quarterback Anu Solomon, who started the season opener against BYU, remains sidelined with a knee injury.
