Arizona football recruiting: San Diego area recruits shine, Greg Johnson runs over a guy and Kurtis Brown tears meniscus
Braxton Burmeister, Scott Young and Joshua Brown doing good things
It was a bit of a mixed bag for the 2017 Arizona Wildcats recruiting class this week in their high school games. There were some strong performances from some of the usual suspects, as well as some injuries that have been holding back some of the long-time commits.
Here is the latest for this week’s recruiting round up for the Arizona commits.
Scott Young brings in two touchdowns
Scott Young was recently named the No. 3 player in San Diego as we approach the midway point of the season. He started his night with an 80-yard touchdown reception and also added a 99-yard kick return for a touchdown.
Young remains as one of my top five favorite commits. He has Will Parks written all over him.

Top 100 commit Greg Johnson
We’re starting to get more footage of Greg Johnson and it’s a thing of beauty. Donte’ Williams flew out to attend the Hawkins-Dorsey game and watch a few guys. The Hawkins squad has a ton of talent, including 5-star wide receiver Joseph Lewis and a load of 2018 kids. Hawkins is currently 7-0.

Rhedi Short and Cathedral remain undefeated
It’s been a strong season for the Cathedral Phantoms, as they remain 7-0 on the season. Rhedi Short (21) also looks huge in this photo. He’s listed at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds. Likely Nebraska-bound wide receiver Jamire Calvin (2) is listed at 5-foot-9.

Braxton Burmeister breaks another record
This is Braxton Burmeister’s world, and we’re just living in it. I’m very interested in seeing how he climbs the rankings this season. I think he’ll move up the California rankings, but I’m not sure the experts will want to put him above Jack Sears or Tristan Gebbia.

Kurtis Brown suffers torn meniscus
The 6-foot-3, 280 pound defensive tackle suffered a torn meniscus last week, which will hold him out for 4-6 months. He’ll still be ready for the summer when he arrives at Arizona, but it seems like a redshirt would more than likely happen now just to make sure he is healthy. Prior to the injury, I felt like he would still need some time as well.
That’s when you hope a guy like Elijah Watson is ready to come in immediately, as well as Justin Holt, who is currently redshirting.

Bryce Gilbert’s ankle injury
Gilbert’s been battling through an ankle injury and has been held out for the last two weeks. The Higley coaching staff tells me it is minor and they want to make sure that he is 100% healthy for the playoffs.
Malik Hausman injury status
The 3-star corner out of Bishop Gorman has also been dealing with injuries all season. Whether he’ll be back at some point this season is unknown at the time.
