USC vs. Arizona: Turnovers kill any momentum the Wildcats had
Here are some notable stats in Arizona’s loss to USC, including four turnovers
The Arizona Wildcats left a lot of yards and a lot to be desired on the field Saturday against the USC Trojans. It was a really rough game all around for the ‘Cats, losing 48-14.
Let’s look at some stats from the game.
4
first half passing yards for the Wildcats. That doesn’t need much explaining.
4
turnovers for the Wildcats. Khalil Tate fumbled the ball after having a nice gain but got hit in the arm by a USC player. The fumble set up a Trojans touchdown. He also overthrew a wide open receiver and it was intercepted by USC. This also set up a touchdown for the Trojans.
Matt Morin had a bad handoff with Zach Green with was recovered by USC. The Wildcats were close to scoring when that happened. Morin also threw a pick when he underthrew Darick Holmes down the field. Arizona has had 11 turnovers in their five losses this season.
0
takeaways for the Arizona defense. It’s kind of hard to win when your offense turns the ball over and your defense doesn’t take the ball away. In the last three games (UCLA, Utah, USC), Arizona’s defense has zero takeaways. Not good.
13
points off turnovers for USC.
4-35
Number of penalties and penalty yards for Arizona. Doesn’t seem that bad, but the reason I put this on here is because of a particular personal foul. Aiulua Fanene, for some reason, smashed into a USC player 20 yards behind a sprinting Michael Barton, after Barton recovered a botched snap by USC on a PAT attempt. If not for this lack of good judgement, Arizona would have had a much-needed positive play. Instead, the penalty completely flattened the atmosphere in the stadium.
51
number of plays USC ran in the first half. That’ll wear down any defense, especially in the heat that was present on the field Saturday.
