Sonoran Hot Reads: Dino Babers delivers great postgame speech

How great is this?

This past weekend, the Syracuse Orange notched a huge upset victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies. Syracuse has a new head coach this year, and that’s former Arizona Wildcats assistant Dino Babers, who coached the Wildcats from 1995-2000. After the big win, Babers gave a postgame speech that has now gone viral. Sean Keeley at Nunes Magician broke down the emotional speech like only he can. It’s magical and you need to go read it

- Fan attendance is a much-discussed topic right now in Tucson, and Arizona would sell beer stadium-wide to combat this issue if the stadium allowed for it

Basketball

Baseball

- Terry Francona and the Indians are now just one win away from reaching the World Series. Former UCLA pitcher and noted weird guy Trevor Bauer had to exit his start in the first inning due to blood pouring out of his finger he injured on a drone

- A couple former Wildcats were in action in the Arizona Fall League on Monday. Scott Kingery went 0-for-3, same as Scottsdale teammate Tim Tebow. Brandon Dixon was 0-for-4 with a walk and an RBI

Other sports

- Men’s golf remained in 11th place after second round play at the Tavistock Invitational

- Men’s cross country finished 16th while the women’s team placed 21st at the Pre-NCAA Cross Country Invitational in Indiana

Tucson news

- The Roadrunners have a big name defenseman on their roster now after the Coyotes assigned Zbynek Michalek to the AHL club

- A 23-year-old has died after getting shot during a dispute on the east side

- A 2-year-old accidentally shot their mom

- Game and Fish has shut down a couple of trails in Madera Canyon because of a bear
