Arizona football recruiting: 3-star wide receiver Brian Casteel verbally commits to Wildcats

Arizona is adding some wide receiver depth with this 2017 class

The Arizona Wildcats have now added yet another receiver to the 2017 recruiting class after landing a commitment from 3-star wide receiver Brian Casteel during his unofficial visit.

Despite holding offers from Colorado State, Nevada, New Mexico and Washington State, Casteel decided to put an end to his recruitment process. He now becomes the 12th member of the 2017 class and the second wide receiver, joining Sabino’s Drew Dixon.

Casteel checks in at 6-foot even and 190 pounds, ranked a top 100 receiver according to 247Sports. He hails from Covina, CA. Football analyst Miguel Reveles was a leader on Casteel’s recruitment.

I felt like Casteel was always a guy that Arizona was bound to land. He’s an extremely sound receiver, and I would compare his production down the road similar to that of a Nate Phillips.

At Charter Oaks High School, he hauled in 65 receptions for 1,279 yards and 11 touchdowns as a sophomore. During his junior season, his numbers dipped a bit, with 57 receptions for 913 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also played defensive back, bringing down 46 ball carriers. His team finished 12-2 last season, losing in the CIF Central Division State Championship.

Arizona is in play for quite a few receivers at the moment. Players like Joseph Lewis, Bruce Judson, Maurice Bell, Bryce Gilbert and Bryan Thompson are all highly ranked guys to keep an eye on. Chris Brooks is bound to commit and Warren Jackson is a guy who I feel good about landing depending on the timing of commitments.
