2016 MLB Draft results: Arizona RHP Kevin Ginkel drafted in 22nd round by Diamondbacks

Staying in Arizona

Hard-throwing Arizona Wildcats RHP Kevin Ginkel will get to stay in Arizona as he was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 22nd round of the MLB Draft.

This is the third time that Ginkel has been drafted. In 2014, he was taken in the 16th round by the San Francisco Giants. In 2015, it was in the 26th round by the Boston Red Sox.

After Regional play, Ginkel's ERA is down to 2.82, and he boasts a 4-1 record.

The second half of the season has really bolstered Ginkel's resume this year. He attributes his late success to a slight mechanics change made to his lower half.

That was on full display in a midweek game against Arizona State. The junior was able to take a perfect game into the 7th inning, and finished a complete game allowing just two hits on the night.

Most recently, Ginkel pitched Arizona into the Super Regional round, taking the ball in the deciding day of the Lafayette Regional not once, but twice in the final two games.

His obvious strength is his velocity, having touched 99 MPH on the radar gun in Arizona's practices, and 98 in game situations. If he's able to develop control of his offspeed stuff, Ginkel could be a deadly weapon down the road for the Diamondbacks.
