2016 MLB Draft: Arizona IF Cody Ramer drafted by Los Angeles Angels in 19th round

And he gets to stay teammates with Gibbons

In the 19th round, Arizona Wildcats infielder Cody Ramer was drafted by his favorite team, the Los Angeles Angels.

Ramer has been Arizona's leadoff hitter all year, carrying a .357 batting average into Super Regional play. But as good as that is, his defense may be his best attribute, being an above average defender at second base, shortstop and third base.

"There's 30 organizations that need to have him really high tomorrow," head coach Jay Johnson said after Friday night's win against Mississippi State. "Because he's a really great player."

Heading into this season, there was no reason to think that Ramer would be drafted. He had barely received significant playing time in his first three college seasons.

Before the season started, he approached Johnson about joining the coaching staff next year as an undergrad assistant, which everyone was on board with. Both him and Zach Gibbons were going to do that.

Now, they're both heading to the Angels farm system. Gibbons was taken in the 17th round by the club.
