Arizona football recruiting: 4-star quarterback Braxton Burmeister re-commits to the Wildcats

After decommitting a few weeks ago, Burmeister has come back to Arizona

Braxton Burmeister was once the first commit of the Arizona Wildcats' 2017 recruiting class, ending his recruitment process back in November of 2014 as a sophomore. This past March, he ended up decommitting, which wasn't all that shocking. With the Anu Solomon still holding a few more years of eligibility, Brandon Dawkins now in the mix, Khalil Tate enrolling early, and the commitment of Rhett Rodriguez, you could say Arizona's quarterback situation was pretty comfortable going forward.

After taking a few visits across the country, which included Indiana, South Carolina, Washington and Utah, Burmeister ends up coming back to Arizona, pledging his commitment once again to Rich Rodriguez and his spread offense.

If you read my Junior Day recruiting roundup, I mentioned that I was able to talk to a Washington Husky insider, who had said that many believed that Burmeister was going to recommit to Arizona, with scheme fit as his number one priority, despite his high interest in Washington.

I had felt like Oregon was going to jump into the picture after losing out on Ryan Kelley, the No. 1 ranked dual-threat quarterback in the nation who ended up flipping to Arizona State, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Now, Burmeister adds another layer of intrigue to the quarterback situation going forward. Checking in at 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, Burmeister is ranked as the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, a consensus four-star prospect. This gives Arizona nine commitments for the 2017 class and their third 4-star prospect.

This commitment also helps the recruitment Bruce Judson, the No. 14 athlete in the nation. He was on campus for an unofficial in February and loved it. Burmeister and Judson had developed a relationship stemming from middle school and Judson actually came to Burmeister to get more information about Arizona after watching the offense in the New Mexico Bowl. Florida appears to be the clear favorite and Pitt seems to be in the mix as well.

Back to Burmeister. He threw 74 touchdowns in three seasons as the varsity quarterback to just 25 interceptions. He also averaged just over 200 passing yards a game to go along with about 60 rushing yards a game. This is a solid read-option quarterback for Rich Rodriguez.
