Sonoran Hot Reads: Tucson one step closer to having an AHL team

Are you ready for professional hockey in Tucson?

It's been a few years since Tucson has been home to a professional sports franchise, but that era appears to be coming to a close. Yet another obstacle was cleared to bring an AHL franchise to the Tucson Convention Center on Tuesday when the NHL Board of Governors approved the Coyotes' request to purchase the Springfield franchise and relocate it to Tucson. It's still to be seen if this will have an impact on the University of Arizona club team and its status, but you would have to think that this will do nothing but good for the hockey scene in the Old Pueblo, especially with the development of youth leagues

Football

- Arizona was not included in ESPN's way-too-early Top 25

- The offensive line got a thumbs up from the worldwide leader though

- Scooby Wright will wear No. 50 with the Browns

- The people are mad that Gabe says it's ok to offer dudes that aren't the absolute best in the country

Basketball

Alec talked to Ike Obiagu, who was recently offered by Arizona

Baseball

- Bobby Dalbec is one of 18 players up for the John Olerud two-way Player of the Year Award

- Mark Melancon is pretty good at the whole closer thing

Softball

It's senior weekend, and there's only one senior to honor, catcher Lauren Young
