Arizona football recruiting: 3-star safety Clifford Chattman strongly considering Arizona
Another Louisiana product could be making his way to Tucson
The Arizona Wildcats coaching staff had quite a few visitors on campus this weekend, among those was Clifford Chattman, 6-5 180lb safety out of New Orleans, Louisiana. He's currently ranked 44th among all athletes in the nation and 33rd among all Louisiana prospects. Upon his Arizona visit, he trimmed his list to four.

Chattman is a borderline 4-star recruit, and would be a huge get for Arizona. He has offers from across the country and was once an LSU Tigers commit. When he announced that he was visiting Tucson, I didn't think much of it. He has scheduled visits to Florida State and Texas A&M, and will likely head to Oklahoma as well.
When you compare Arizona to those, it just doesn't match up. Florida State is two years removed from a national championship, Oklahoma was in the College Football Playoff and have been in numerous BCS bowls in this decade, and Texas A&M is a top-notch SEC team.
But Arizona has been able to recruit out of Louisiana very well. Offensive coordinator and running backs coach Calvin Magee has had a large role in that, and he was the one that drew Chattman out to Arizona for the visit. "I wanted to see how everything was. Coach Magee made a push on me to come up," he said about his decision to visit.
And he absolutely loved his visit.
"I give Arizona a 10, it's great," he explained of his time in Tucson. "The players are like brothers, but that's how it's supposed to be. The campus is amazing. The athlete dorm rooms are a good place of living."
Amidst the coaching changes, Chattman was very impressed with the system and the plan they have for him at Arizona.
"The coaches are great. We talked about [the defensive scheme]. I actually talked to coach [Donté] Williams before I left," he said when asked about his talks with the coaches. "He's a great coach but coach Addae will be my position coach. I'll be playing free safety in their system, that's something I like. They have a plan."
When it comes down to deciding, it'll come down to one thing. "The relationship with the players. Sometimes you can build a relationship with your coach but he's not guaranteed to stay on the staff," he said. Paul Magloire and Kendal Franklin were his hosts, and they appeared to have a good time together. A great recruiting combo for Chattman as Magloire has the playing experience and Franklin has his Louisiana ties.
A week ago, I didn't think much of Chattman's recruitment process nor his trip to Arizona. He just had an in-home visit from Jimbo Fischer upon returning from his Arizona official, and he still has to take his visits to A&M and Florida State. Despite all that, I like Arizona's chances at landing the 3-star safety out of Louisiana.
