Sonoran Hot Reads: Kobi Simmons named McDonald's All-American

An expected honor for the recent Arizona commit

It was the weekend of Kobi Simmons. After officially committing to Arizona on Saturday, the 18th-ranked player in the country was named a McDonald's All-American on Sunday night. He will join a long list of guys who played at Arizona that have received the honor. On the opposite team as Simmons is Josh Jackson, who people expect to end up at Arizona as well. Simmons also got a visit from the Arizona coaching staff on Sunday:

- Many former players have chimed in on Simmons' decision to attend Arizona including Rondae Hollis-JeffersonStanley Johnson, and Solomon Hill. If you were doubting Sean Miller's ability to recruit, well, he's about to prove you extremely wrong

- Oregon State looked like they had a win at Utah in the books, but collapsed late, and Jarmal Reid purposely tripped an official, leading to the Utes' first lead of the night. Guessing Reid will be suspended for this. OSU plays UCLA and USC this week

Football

- The big football news of the day was the addition of San Jose State secondary coach Donte Williams. We will have more reaction to the news later today, but here's a taste from the SJSU perspective, where they also need a new defensive coordinator

- Williams was slipping right into his role, as Arizona offered 2017 USC commit Thomas Graham Jr.

- It also appears that Marcel Yates is on the verge of officially becoming Arizona's new defensive coordinator. His wife tweeted this out:

Other sports

- Women's basketball won their game against Colorado to give Niya Butts her 100th career win. You can watch the highlights of the game here. The bigger news though might be that Taryn Griffey is taking a leave of absence from the team

Gymnastics won their meet at Texas Woman's University

Tucson news

- Might be cool to check out the MLK Day Jazz Festival in Downtown

- And you have to watch these:
