Syracuse hires Dino Babers as head coach

The former Arizona assistant lands a P5 job

Former Arizona assistant coach Dino Babers has landed his first head coaching job in a power five conference, as he will be the next head coach of the Syracuse Orange.

Babers has been a head coach in the MAC for the last two years, where he led the Bowling Green Falcons to a conference championship on Friday night, finishing with a 10-3 record this year.

Prior to being the head coach at Bowling Green, Babers was the head coach at Eastern Illinois for two seasons, leading the Panthers to two Ohio Valley Conference Championships, and two FCS Playoff births, reaching the quarterfinals in his second season.

At Arizona, he served as the offensive coordinator from 1998-2000 before he left for the same position at Texas A&M in 2001. In his five years on staff in Tucson, players like Bobby Wade, Dennis Northcutt, Brandon Manumaleuna and Trung Candidate all came through his offensive system.

The ACC has been making some incredibly strong highers to this point in the offseason, and Babers is just the latest. Virginia hired Bronco Mendenhall away from BYU, Virginia Tech hired Justin Fuente away from Memphis, and Miami hired ex-Georgia head coach Mark Richt.

That conference is loaded with coaching talent, but we'll be rooting for Babers and Syracuse from here on out. Congrats coach!
