Former Arizona catcher Jett Bandy named to PCL All-Star team

The Angels prospect is doing big things this year

Former Arizona Wildcat and current Angels prospect Jett Bandy was named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team on Wednesday.

Bandy is a catcher in the Angels organization, currently playing for the Salt Lake Bees. He is currently having his best professional season since moving above Rookie League ball in 2012. Bandy's hitting .269 for Salt Lake in 2015, 10 points above his career batting average. He also has a much-improved slugging percentage thanks to the PCL, where he's been able to belt out seven home runs.

Bandy will be one of three catchers on the team, being joined by Austin Barnes and Tomas Telis. Bandy is easily the biggest of the trio, checking in at 6'4" and 235 pounds. Unfortunately for Bandy, the catcher position is pretty stacked at the Major League level for the Angels, so several injuries would have to happen for him to be called up to the Major Leagues.

From 2009-11, Bandy hit .308 at Arizona, and drove in 121 runs. His sophomore season was easily the best of the three, as he hit a monstrous .354 in 2010. He was named All-Pac-10, joined by teammates Steve Selsky and Kurt Heyer.

This is not the only former Wildcat to make a Minor League All-Star team this year. Johnny Field represented Montgomery and the Tampa Bay Rays in the Southern League All-Star game in June.

The Triple-A All-Star Game will be played on July 15th in Omaha, Nebraska.
