Arizona baseball: UCLA completes sweep of Wildcats

Fitting way for the season to end

The Arizona Wildcats were faced with the difficult task of playing their final conference series of 2015 at UCLA, who is by far the best team in this conference.

And Arizona certainly did not respond to the challenge, as the Bruins completed the series sweep with a 5-3 win on Sunday.

After not scoring a run in the first two games of the series, including getting no-hit on Friday, the Wildcats scored a run in the first inning on Sunday thanks to a Bobby Dalbec sac fly.

Arizona would go on to take a 2-0 lead in the fourth on a JJ Matijevic RBI groundout.

But as has been the case since taking over as a starter, Bobby Dalbec ran into some adversity in the fifth inning.

Dalbec gave up five hits and a walk in the fifth, while being able to record just one out in the inning before giving way to Robby Medel. That resulted in four runs scored for UCLA, thanks to two-run singles by Brett Stephens and Chris Keck.

The Bruins added their fifth run in the next inning with a double off the bat of Kevin Kramer.

Dalbec got the only Arizona RBI hit of the weekend in the 8th, when he hit a one-out double that drove in Kevin Newman. But Tyler Krause struck out and Matijevic grounded out to short to end the potential rally.

The win allowed UCLA to clinch the Pac-12 title, while Arizona finishes with a 12-18 conference record. Not good. Not good at all.
