Baseball America ranks Arizona’s 2020 recruiting class fourth-best in nation

The Arizona Wildcats officially have their best recruiting class in school history. Well, at least since such rankings began.

Baseball America’s updated 2020 class rankings put Arizona at No. 4, up four spots from its pre-MLB Draft ranking in June. Per a school release, that’s the highest the Wildcats have ever been since BA first started ranking classes.

“We are honored to receive this ranking from Baseball America and are excited about the group of players we brought in,” UA coach Jay Johnson said in a release. “This is a group with high-level ability and character. I believe this class will mesh well with the returning players in the program to help us reach our potential in 2020 and beyond while helping our program function at an extremely high level. It is a balanced class in regards to the attributes they bring to the table and it gives us an opportunity to have a team that can be successful and win in different ways. We have players in this class who have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on our success and others that have tremendous long-term potential.”

Arizona only saw one signee get taken in the 2020 draft, with California infielder Nick Yorke going 17^th overall to the Boston Red Sox. Johnson had expected as many as five incoming freshmen to get picked, but the reduction to just a five-round draft vastly helped his program.

• C Daniel Susac
• RHP Josh Swales
• 3B Zavien Watson

That stacked class will join a 2021 roster that brings back most of the top contributors from the shortened 2020 campaign, the main exceptions being catcher Austin Wells and utilityman Matthew Dyer, both of whom were drafted. Also gone is infielder Dayton Dooney, who entered the transfer portal over the summer.
