4-star wing Jahmai Mashack committed to the Tennessee Volunteers over the Arizona Wildcats among other programs.

The 6-foot-5 Rancho Cucamonga native is the No. 92 player in the 2021 class, per 247Sports composite rankings.

Mashack wrote in his Sports Illustrated blog that he has never even visited the University of Tennessee before, but likes the family environment created by Coach Rick Barnes.

“Coach Barnes is an amazing coach and an even better person,” Mashack wrote. “The first time I talked to him he was down to earth and told me how much he loved what I do on both ends of the floor. He was passionate about how he could help to turn me into a great player.”

Arizona offered Mashack in April, two months earlier than Tennessee. His older brother Kwesi played cornerback for the Wildcats from 2014 to 2017.

Jahmai’s 247Sports scouting report projects him to be a “Power-5 starter.”

“Physical wing with good size and long arms,” it reads. “Plus athlete with ideal toughness/physicality. Competitor who plays consistently hard. One of top defenders nationally in 2021 class. Uses size, length, athleticism, motor and instincts to lock up opposing guards and wings. Should be able to guard at least three positions at next level. Handle and jumper have improved but could still get better; scores many of his points slashing and in transition or on offensive glass/cuts. Projects as high major starter with ultimate success predicated on continued development of offensive skill.”
