The likelihood of a 2020 college football season seems to be decreasing by the hour, but Tony Fields II does know where he’d like to play his final year. And it just so happens to be where a former teammate and an assistant coach from his past has ended up.

The former Arizona Wildcats linebacker, who left the program in mid-July, announced on Twitter Monday he’s committed to play for the West Virginia Mountaineers. As a graduate transfer he will be eligible immediately.

Minnesota and Texas were the other finalists among schools that reached out for the 6-foot-1, 220-pound Fields, who started all 37 games he played at Arizona from 2017-19. Last season he had 94 tackles (five for loss) and an interception, logging 287 tackles for his career.

With the Mountaineers Fields will be reunited with former Wildcat safety Scottie Young Jr., another 3-year starter who transferred from Arizona since last season ended. Also at West Virginia is cornerbacks coach Jahmile Addae, who was on the UA staff during Fields’ freshman year, as well as former Arizona defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel, who is coaching the Mountaineers’ outside linebackers.
