Fresh off TV spot, Haley Moore makes cut at LPGA’s Marathon Classic

Haley Moore isn’t one to seek the limelight, but she’s happy to make an exception this week.

The former Arizona golfer and 2018 national champion is the face of the LPGA’s new Drive On campaign, which aims to promote greater opportunities for women.

Moore’s story of overcoming bullying is the focus of a new commercial by the league.

“I learned what makes me different makes me stronger and true confidence comes from within,” she wrote on Instagram. “Thank you [LPGA Tour] for starting the Drive On campaign. I’m excited to share my story and make a difference to all the young kids out there who have been bullied.”

Moore also wrote a first-person account of her journey to the top level of professional women’s golf.

For all the attention Moore is receiving off the course, it’s her performance on it that could elevate her to superstardom in the coming years.

This week Moore is competing at the LPGA’s Marathon Classic at the Highland Meadows Golf Club in Ohio, where she sits at three under through two rounds, putting her in a tie for 32nd place.

The Escondido, Calif. native is well behind leader Lydia Ko (-13), but Moore’s former Arizona teammate Bianca Pagdanganan is in a tie for eighth place at six under. She recorded back-to-back eagles on the 17th and 18th holes, only the 23rd time that’s happened in LPGA Tour history, according to the league’s media relations staff.

Though Moore is out of contention, the PGA Network treated the rookie like a 10-year veteran, showing many of her swings Friday afternoon.

Moore ended the day on a high note by chipping in an eagle shot that gave her a 69 for the round and moved her up 15 spots on the leaderboard.
