Pac-12 announces conference-only schedules for fall sports, delay for mandatory activities

The Pac-12 announced Friday it will move to conference-only scheduling for the fall season, affecting Arizona football, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball.

The conference also said mandatory athletic activities will be delayed until data indicates it’s safe for athletes to return.

“The health and safety of our student-athletes and all those connected to Pac-12 sports continues to be our number one priority,” Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said in a statement. “Our decisions have and will be guided by science and data, and based upon the trends and indicators over the past days, it has become clear that we need to provide ourselves with maximum flexibility to schedule, and to delay any movement to the next phase of return-to-play activities.”

The Pac-12 has yet to decide on the length of football season. The conference said it will announce details on conference-only schedules by July 31.

Here are the scheduled Arizona football non-conference games now canceled:

  • vs. Hawaii (Aug. 29)
  • vs. Portland State (Sep. 5)
  • at Texas Tech (Sep. 19)

Arizona soccer was scheduled to play Big Ten powerhouse Wisconsin in the non-conference season.
