The Arizona Wildcats will need someone to replace Aari McDonald after the 2020-21 season. Maybe that could be Kayla McPherson.

The five-star point guard listed Arizona in her top 5 on Friday. The other finalists are North Carolina, N.C. State, Mississippi State and Georgia Tech.

The 5-foot-7 guard is the No. 15 player in the 2021 class and No. 3 point guard, per ESPN. She attends Madison County High School in Danielsville, Georgia, hence her East Coast-heavy list of finalists.

McPherson was the 2018-19 Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 23.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.5 steals per game.

Here are some things ESPN noted about McPherson in 2019:

Athletic floor-leader with a scorer’s mentality in the back court; competes on both ends of the floor; game manager in half-court setting, penetrates and distributes in traffic; offensive arsenal delivers at all three levels; an elite guard prospect in the class of 2021

Poised lead-guard with a scoring punch in the back court; handles, weaves through traffic in transition game, distributes with precision; manufactures shots, rises on jumper in mid-range game to the arc; confident savvy and an impact guard in the class of 2021.

Adia Barnes and company currently have one 2021 commit so far—Gilbert-based shooting guard Madison Conner, one of the top marksmen in the country. The Wildcats are also a finalist for Jasmine Shavers, a four-star guard who listed Arizona in her final 8.

Along with McDonald, the Wildcats will graduate Sam Thomas and Trinity Baptiste after the 2020-21 campaign.

Arizona was in the running for two other highly-ranked point guards—Jada Walker and Aziaha James—but they recently committed elsewhere.
