Arizona shows off COVID-19 signage at football facilities ahead of players’ return

When the Arizona Wildcats start returning to campus in 10 days, ending nearly three months of banishment from athletic facilities, they’re going to face a whole new world when it comes to how they go about training and working out.

In addition to being tested for COVID-19 upon arrival, a key part of the Pac-12’s protocols on re-opening, masks and social distancing will become the standard for the foreseeable future.

To prepare for this, Arizona has installed signage at each facility that athletes will be visiting during the summer. Dennis Polian, the director of football operations, gave a preview of some of these signs on his Twitter feed:

In case you can’t read that last sign, it says:

• Wash your hands frequently or use sanitizer
• Wear a mask in public
• Stay at home if you are sick
• Sneeze or cough into a tissue or your elbow
• Don’t touch your eyes, nose and mouth
• Keep your distance
• Stay informed (Arizona.edu/covid19)

Football players will be the first Arizona athletes to return to campus since the coronavirus pandemic shut down college sports in mid-March. Athletes from other fall sports are expected to return in July, while the men’s basketball team hopes to bring its newcomer- and overseas-heavy roster together “at some point this summer,” coach Sean Miller said Tuesday.
