Former Arizona softball outfielder Jenna Kean is transferring to Louisiana-Lafayette, according to Justin’s World of Softball.

The junior is the second Arizona transfer to pick the Ragin’ Cajuns this offseason. Sophomore left-hander Vanessa Foreman was the other. UL was the No. 8 team in the country when the 2020 season was canceled by the coronavirus crisis.

Kean appeared in 110 career games and made 82 starts (37 as a freshman, 37 as a sophomore, eight as a junior) at Arizona, seeing time at all three outfield spots.

The speedy slapper was a career .297 hitter and hit a career-best .353 in 2020, but only got 17 at-bats as she battled with junior Peanut Martinez and freshmen Bella Dayton and Janelle Meono for playing time in the corner outfield.

Kean’s speed set her apart as she swiped 18 bases in three seasons, more than any other player during that span. She also showed some pop, with 10 of her 63 career hits going for extra bases, including two homers.

Before enrolling at Arizona, Kean attended Los Alamitos High School in Los Alamitos, California. She was the No. 44 recruit in the country, per FloSoftball, and a PGF All-American as she starred for the Firecrackers at the travel level.

Kean is the last of Arizona’s five transfers to pick a school. Carli Campbell chose Syracuse, Ivy Davis signed with Tennessee and Marissa Schuld joined Arizona State.

Sophomore Riley Kuderca also left the program but is planning to remain at the UA as a student.

College softball transfers are generally eligible to play immediately unless they transfer within the same conference.

The return of Arizona’s seven seniors is the main reason for those players’ departure. Even with all the player movement, the Wildcats have 22 players on their 2021 roster.
