We’ll never know how the Arizona Wildcats would have fared in the NCAA Tournament, but we at least know where they stand in the final AP poll of the season.

Arizona checks in at No. 12, its best finish since being ranked No. 9 in the final AP poll of the 1997-98 season.

The Wildcats went 24-7 including a 12-6 mark in the Pac-12, finishing fourth in arguably the toughest conference in the country. They were on track to make their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005 and be a 3- or 4-seed, which would have given them the right to host the first two rounds.

Arizona should be strong again next year, though how strong will depend on a few things, including Aari McDonald’s decision to return for her redshirt senior season or declare for the WNBA Draft.

Our Kim Doss laid out Arizona’s roster scenarios in-depth here.

Oregon (2), Stanford (7), UCLA (10), Oregon State (14), and Arizona State (25) also are ranked in the final AP Top 25, giving the Pac-12 more ranked teams than any other conference.
