Arizona women’s basketball adds Indiana transfer Bendu Yeaney

Indiana transfer Bendu Yeaney committed to the Arizona Wildcats on Sunday. She announced her decision on Twitter.

The 5-foot-10 guard averaged 8.5 points per game in 76 career games (69 starts) at Indiana. The junior from Portland appeared in six games in 2019-20 before announcing her decision to transfer on Jan. 31.

Yeaney averaged 9.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game as a sophomore in 2018-19, while shooting 39.5 percent from the field and 20.4 percent from a 3 before rupturing her Achilles in the NCAA Tournament. Her bio on Indiana’s website says she was “usually tasked with guarding the opponent’s leading scorer.”

As a freshman, Yeaney shot 39 percent from 3 and averaged 8.4 PPG. Because she only appeared in six games as a junior, it is not clear when she will be eligible to suit up for the Wildcats, or how many years of eligibility she has left.

Yeaney visited the UA for the Stanford game on Feb. 28, when the Wildcats pulled off their first-ever upset over a top-5 team.

Arizona finished the season No. 13 in the AP poll and on track to be a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats are set to lose Dominique McBryde, Lucia Alonso, Tee Tee Starks, and Amari Carter to graduation, and could see Aari McDonald declare for the WNBA Draft.
