How would Selection Sunday have gone for Arizona?

In an alternate reality, a normal reality, the NCAA Tournament selection show would be commencing on CBS right now and the Arizona Wildcats, perhaps on the heels of Pac-12 Tournament championship (hey, we can let our imagination roam, right?), would be waiting to hear where they were headed next.

But there is no Selection Sunday and there isn’t a bracket. The coronavirus crisis has canceled the NCAA Tournament, leaving players, coaches, and fans with a void that we can only fill with wonder and speculation.

But what would have happened if things were normal? Here is where the experts think the Wildcats would have landed. (Note that these projections don’t account for the results of the Pac-12 Tournament.)

ESPN (Joe Lunardi) — 7 seed

• vs. No. 10 seed Texas Tech in West Region (Sacramento)

CBS (Jerry Palm) — 9 seed

• vs. No. 8 seed Marquette in South Region (Houston)

NCAA.com (Andy Katz) — 8 seed

• vs. No. 9 seed Florida in Midwest Region (Omaha)

NBC Sports (Dave Ommen) — 7 seed

• vs. No. 10 seed Marquette in West Region (Sacramento)

Bracketville — 7 seed

• vs. No. 10 seed Marquette in West Region (Sacramento)

SB Nation (Chris Dobbertean) — 8 seed

• vs. No. 9 seed Florida in East Region (Cleveland)

The consensus is that Arizona would have been 7 to 9 seed, meaning anything other than a first- or second-round exit would have been a surprise, as that likely would have required them to beat a No. 1 or No. 2 seed to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
