Arizona interested in Wichita State transfer Jamarius Burton

The Wildcats could use his shooting

The Wichita State Shockers are losing several players to transfer, and the Arizona Wildcats are evidently hoping to land at least one, maybe two, of them.

After reaching out to WSU sophomore guard Erik Stevenson, the Wildcats have reportedly been in contact with fellow sophomore guard Jamarius Burton.

Burton was WSU’s third-season scorer this season, averaging 10.3 points per game while shooting 44 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3. He only averaged 2.1 3-point attempts per game, but the Wildcats could still use that kind of marksmanship.

He would likely have to sit out a year before having two years of eligibility at his new school.

The 6-foot-4 guard from Charlotte, North Carolina was a three-star recruit coming out of high school, ranked 408th in the country by 247Sports.

While the Shockers had the eighth-best defense in the country per KenPom, Burton had the second-worst defensive box plus-minus among rotation players. Steals aren’t the best stat to evaluate defensive ability but he only averaged 0.8 per game, despite averaging 27.1 minutes.

Burton came off the bench for the first seven games before starting the rest.
